Breast Lift/Reduction

Breast Lift Surgery in New Westminster, BC | MacDonald Plastic Surgery

Loss of skin elasticity, weight loss, large breasts, pregnancy, and breast-feeding are all factors that can cause your breasts to lose firmness and change their shape over time. A breast lift can raise and firm the breasts resulting in perkier, more youthful breast contour. For some women, the loss of breast volume is also an issue. In such cases, breast implants inserted in conjunction with a breast lift can increase breast size as well as enhancing the shape and position of the breasts.

A breast lift involves lifting and repositioning the breasts and nipples to a more anatomically correct position. To learn more about breast lift surgery with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jeannie MacDonald, fill out our online form or call us at (604) 288-8517.

Candidates for Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lift surgery might be right for you if you have breasts that are drooping, have lost volume and firmness, and /or have nipples and areolas that point downward.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you will want to wait for a few months until your breasts return to normal. Since the milk ducts and nipples are left intact, breast lift surgery usually does not affect your ability to breastfeed in the future. However, you should discuss this with Dr. MacDonald.

What Can I Expect During Breast Lift Surgery and Recovery?

Breast lift surgery is a day surgery, meaning you go home the same day. It requires a general anesthetic so we have you complete a pre-operative questionnaire to ensure you are ready for surgery. You will be given instructions on what time to arrive and reminded not to eat or drink anything the night before surgery. The surgery is approximately 2 hours and you will spend approximately 3 hours in the recovery room, so plan to spend the day at the hospital. You will be given a prescription for pain medication before leaving the hospital.

You will need someone to drive you home from the hospital and stay with you for the first 24 hours. You can shower 48 hours after surgery. All the stitches are dissolving and incision care is simply ointment and gauze. You will have a wrap or binder on from the day of surgery and this is worn full-time until the healing is complete in 2-4 weeks.
